It appears Charter is blocking Free Republic in SC. I am able to connect via my Cellphone.
My final solution for a good fix: I installed SetupVPN extension in Firefox. Very easy to use, I now have access to Free Republic again.
My outage started yesterday around 5 PM, still out. I had this happen once before about 5 years ago., the issue went away after a day.
Just waiting for the first a*hole to say that we should build our own ISP.
I have Spectrum (100mbps) and use Slimjet, a Chromium-based browser - lighter & faster than Chrome without its’ tracking.
All’s well here re: FR
We should build our own ISP. You can rest easy now. ;<)
I use Charlotte Spectrum, primarily with Brave browser. Just checked with Microsoft Edge. No problem with either on FR. BTW, listening to Rush, too!
Did have a problem when in Best Buy in Palm Springs a few months ago. Hooked up to their free wi-fi and FR was blocked?
FWIW I’m on FR with my ancient desktop & no enhancements.
I live in Rome, NY, have Spectrum, and previously had Time Warner. On my MacBook Pro, using Safari, I have never been blocked, even though Safari says “Not Secure” in front of FR’s URL address. I use a VPN on my old iMac. It’s so old, there are no updates for it. I ended up having to stop using Safari, because I kept getting messages that it couldn’t connect to the site because it couldn’t make a secure connection. Since then I’ve been using Firefox, which can’t be updated either. When I’ve used the VPN, and used Toronto, Canada as the ISP address, I could initially access my Netflix account on it, but it will now not connect at all...just sits there trying to connect. I can only access it if I use a U.S. VPN address, or turn the VPN on that computer off.
Maybe flush DNS cache. I’ve had to do that once or twice over the years.
ipconfig /flushdns
I’m going to try slimjet. Thanks.
I’m confident that it’s a DNS problem. either yours or theirs. about a 0.03% chance that you’re being blocked from FR.
I’m on Charter in TN, and (so far) everything is fine.
I was waiting for the first one to ask if he was logged in...
I have Spectrum and I’ve had access to Free Republic today. There is no way Spectrum would block Free Republic.
bttt
The ip address comes back good so the DNS is up, unable to ping the ip address. When I connect to freepublic with my cellphone no issues.
I will try rebooting the Modem and wireless router later today.
It’s only a matter of time when the left makes our sites go dark. I know some have other networks and back up plans but overall, the left wants America like China.
“When I connect to freepublic with my cellphone no issues.”
You’re probably getting via cellular instead of your internet. If my internet can’t connect to something I’ll use my cell phone and Verizon will come through. But ... using data.
Two days ago the same thing happened to me...could not connect to the FR website. In fact, I couldn’t get on Conservative Treehouse either. Tried Michelle Malkins website, and nope, would not connect.
If I went to Google, Yahoo, my email...no problems at all.
Had to leave for work. Later when I got home, I rebooted the Charter modem and also my wireless router. That seemed to fix the problem (error had said “captive portal”).
Must have been a hardware issue, but sure seems strange this chromebook only had problems connecting to conservative websites.
