FULL TITLE: TOTTING UP I had an abortion in my 30s so I can afford to buy my first son all the toys he wants and take him on holiday every year

ABORTIONS have long been associated with teenage girls - but the reality is very different, with more women having abortions later in life simply because they can’t afford to have a baby.

There were 200,608 abortions in England and Wales in 2017 – and according to a Department of Health study, there were a record number in the over-30s age group.

Many were in relationships and over half of them – 54 per cent – were already mothers.

But why are so many mothers choosing abortion?

Here, one mum tells us her story. 'I couldn’t afford to be a single mum to two'

Stacy-Jane Sullivan, 32, a Home Education Support and Advice Officer, from Maidstone, Kent, decided on a termination after falling pregnant with her ex's child.

Stacy-Jane says: "I’m like clockwork with my cycle so when I was seven days late, I did a pregnancy test, saw the positive result and burst into tears.

I’d been separated from my son’s father for two years and although we’d occasionally sleep together, we were never going to get back together.

I was a single mum already to Logan, four, worked full time and knew I couldn’t look after two children.

While my heart flip-flopped over what to do, my head was telling me another baby would break me financially.

How charming.

Actually, so you can buy your second son toys. She should ask her second son whether he would want toys he'll outgrow in months, or a big brother.

A coworker of mine was sleeping with her ex-husband and he found
a lump in her breast that turned out to be breast cancer.

True story.

Toys that are largely made out of recycled plastic milk jugs. Those kind of toys?

I guess the words "give the baby up for adoption" aren't in common use in England.

She could have done it as soon as she found out she was pregnant.

But, alas Jolly Old England, "kill the bloody thing", seems to be the norm...just like here in America (though that trend does seem to be changing lately).

Hey, your son could've been a big brother, but you murdered his little brother or sister. I see another thing wrong, you and Logan's dad aren't married and you get together and sleep together. Sorry, but Logan's dad must be a feminine male and he doesn't give a (bleep) about his son or you.

Toys?? Can't say what I really would love to say...

She didn’t want the disruption to her lifestyle or her figure, nor did she want the additional work that would come with raising another child. Pure selfishness.
