Iceberg Lake is at an elevation of about 10,000 feet in the Ansel Adams Wilderness, on the east side of the Sierra Crest just below Mount Ritter. Its about 8 miles west-northwest of Mammoth Mountain.

Yup, lot of snow up there even now. Kind of like the Summer of 1969 with tons of snow still at the higher elevations.

That’s true - so darned much snow. Terrible.
My daughter went hiking/biking there a couple of years ago in the Summer and suffered frostbite. It never ceases to amaze me how things like this get reported and nobody takes notice of the irony of juxtaposing it with the global warming hoax.
Late Spring above 10,000’ in the Eastern Sierra right now. The mosquitoes are really bad this year.
Happens every once in a while here when people take chances or make mistakes. Sad and somber every time.
Why did he keep hiking even while falling?

Wonder if this was on the PCT. It sounds like it due to the hikers and its about that time of year they would be making their way NB through the Sierras. Some of that trail is treacherous through there especially with full gear on the way to Canada.
I think the trail goes through san benardino and on the north side of the mountains.
Glendora is a foothill community about 40 miles west of SB with trails into the mountains west and on the south side of the range. Up to the angelus crest hwy.
