Europeans always hate the US, the hate is just more intense when a Republican is in office.
They’re Yurps. They may have been born and raised in Britain. They may hold British passports, but they’re Yurps. 5th columnists within the UK.
I consider myself to be an Anglophile but I don’t know of another country in which the elites tend to be bigger c**ts than the UK. They go the extra mile to be hostile to America and are completely fawning and obsequious to Europe - now that there’s no longer a Soviet Union to idolize. They loved Obama who HATED them. They hate Trump who’s half British himself and very pro British. When one bites the hand that feeds him and licks the boot that kicks him like that, you can only conclude they must be filled with self loathing. That is usually confirmed whenever you hear them talk about the UK.
The average guy on the street? Especially the working class types from the North of England or from Wales? Salt of the Earth. Good people. Our cousins. Fortunately, the majority.
As for those who seem to think I would care what they as a foreigner think about American domestic politics, I just smile and ask them if they know what the upshot of our conversation (ie their screed) is. They usually look confused and ask “what?” Then I grin and say “one vote for Trump!”

You would think that they would. Who do they think is going to pick up the trade slack if the EU tries to punish them by cutting them off, Ethiopa? In order for these pensioners (they call them OAPs, Old Age Pensioners, here) to keep getting their pensions the government has to keep running and the biggest hope for that to happen is trade with the USA. When it comes to reporting on Trump, the foreign press is even more despicable than ours. Some of my husband’s cousins are constantly posting vile anti-Trump memes and screeds on Facebook. I ignore them. And I never comment on British politics. Yes, Facebook is disgusting, but most of the time it is the only way to keep up with ‘family’. And of course, the foreign press LOVED Obama.....is anyone surprised?

I can speak for the UK, Belgium and Poland (and to some extent italy) as places I’ve lived in and
the UK I lived in a sickeningly liberal place (liked to tweak their noses- a large number in the liberal place didn’t like the USA - I’m not sure why, I think it’s mostly due to left/right sentiment
Belgium - surprisingly I found Brussels ambivalent to the USA - this was in 2005.
Italy - pro-USA more in the south than in the north.
Poland - pro-USA - more outside Warsaw than in Warsaw

My wife is a born and raised British citizen Spend 10 seconds with her and you would know where she is from. She lived in America with me for 10 years before we moved to Spain. She can’t recall ever being accosted by a stranger offering their opinions on British politics, their leaders or even the Queen. So why do you expect me to put up with jokes and insults from people who don’t even know me, just because I have an American accent? Perhaps if more people got their knickers in a twist they wouldn’t think they had free leave to dump on us. They won’t get a pass from me.

Because the USA matters.
The USA matters to every country on the planet. Trump sneezes and people get affected - the USA puts a trade lock on China and Paraguay gets affected.

Hope they stay there. We don’t need their remoaning arses here. They should all go over the channel or across the Irish Sea to live in the EU they love so much. Spain is where Britain’s bank robbers, gangsters and other riff raff go anyway. France is where our pretentious middle class twats go, all the cool Brits emigrate to NZ where I am right now.
