FULL TITLE: 'If you look at both of these cases, this is mental illness': Trump blames El Paso and Dayton mass shootings on mental health of the gunmen - and promises additional action on Monday

Donald Trump said Sunday 'more has to be done' to prevent mass shootings.

In his first public statement since two mass shooting rocked El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, over the weekend, the president pledged to take action, saying, 'Hate has no place in our country, and we're going to take care of it.'

Trump told a small group of reporters that 'a lot of things are in the works' before boarding Air Force One in Morristown, New Jersey.

'We have done much more than most administrations,' Trump contended. 'But we've done, actually, a lot, but perhaps more has to be done.'

Trump said he has been speaking with Attorney General William Barr Barr and FBI Director Christopher Wray, as well as lawmakers and local leaders, and would be making a lengthier statement on Monday morning.

He indicated his administration is considering additional action, potentially aimed at addressing the problem of mental illness.

'We have to get it stopped. This has been going on for years,' Trump said alongside first lady Melania Trump. 'So thank you very much, and I will be making a statement tomorrow at about 10:00, and I'll see you there.'

The president answered a single question from reporters on the tarmac in New Jersey, where he spends his summer weekends, related to his admission that more more must be done to prevent gun violence. He did not outline specific action he plans to take.

He brought up mental illness, saying the shooters, both white men in their early 20s, were deranged.

Does it really matter if they had mental issues or not? They wanted to kill people and did. That makes them murders and for that they will pay for their crime.

Further when you consider the mindset of most 20+ yr old snowflakes raised in off the edge parents and today being put out there by liberal teachers ......they’d all need some time on the couch to straighten their heads.

the problem is, the democrat president (along with likely a democrat house and senate) will finish off the country.

CW2 will likely start.

Geez! A felon can't LEGALLY own a gun but he can illegally own a gun all day long.

Criminals don't care about the law. You're thinking like an honest person and good on you for being an honest person.

Think of it like this. We can treat a cold with vitamin C and some decongestants but the goal is to not get the cold in the first place by eating right, washing hands, etc. etc.

The goal here is to identify potential crazies but we can't just let the neighbor or an estranged spouse do it without serious checks and balances. Again; frequently these crazies identify themselves ahead of time through contact with law enforcement or mental health facilities so let's find a way to track that info and then red flag them for testing. All records must be kept confidential with serious mandatory prison time for those who blab/leak it. Most will probably be a false positive but it may be a way to help the real crazies or stop them BEFORE they go ballistic.

I understand where you're coming from but there are no easy answers; especially the current red flag laws in some states. Those might as well be called anti-freedom laws or No Bill of Rights laws. They are wrong-headed knee jerk reactions that will do more harm than good.

What I know for sure though is disarming honest normal law-abiding citizens is the most wrong thing our society can do. Identifying the crazies is just the first step. Now what? Do we incarcerate them in mental health facilities for life knowing they can get guns, bomb making equipment, biological agents and poisons, then commit mayhem if released or do we attempt to figure out the problem and hopefully reintroduce them back into society risking the treatment won't work. Tough questions with no clear answers.

Have any evidence that the Mossad is responsible for the mass shootings, or is your assertion just the product of wishful thinking on your part?

If you can do that for a felon why can’t you do it for someone with a violent form of mental illness

who gets to say what is a violent form of mental illness?

“It turns out that none of these mass shooters showed any insanity prior to their horrible act.”

and we know that’s not ture. They are both shown to support bernie and the “squad”.

Seen elsewhere...

In the past 48hrs the USA horrifically lost 34 people to mass shootings. On average, across any 48hrs, we also lost:

500 to Medical errors

300 to the Flu

250 to Suicide

200 to Car Accidents

40 to Homicide via Handgun

Often our emotions respond more to spectacle than to data.

Trump is damn right.

Just look at the people who go into stores and lick ice cream and put it back on the shelf, spit in tea bottles and put them back on the shelf, pee on potatoes, and roll around in the produce.

It’s been verified that the Ohio shooter, when in high school, wrote a hit list on the bathroom wall.

In the El Paso shooting, his manifesto claims his killing is to make sure that guaranteed income and free health care can succeed by culling the population. His targeting clearly was racist, but his goals were socialist. Reminds us of his forebears in NAZI Germany, only his targeted group is different.
