While doing some work outside I got to thinking. I've had a S&W 40 (since '93) for a long long time. Got my CCP a few months after moving here (Texas) back on '06. So I'm thinking, I walk the mall 5 days a week. Got to do something physical so I can watch all the TV I want. Maybe, maybe I might think about carrying considering current events. First of all, how would one carry an S&W 40 concealed??? Some kind of a fanny pack or what? Thought I might ask here.
But then I thought,,,,,,,,,,,,, I may have been born at night,,, but not last night. In spite of intentions, if one were to pull out a weapon and head for the sound of shots guess who authorities would shoot/kill first? In spite of the best intentions. Think I'll think a bit longer on the thought!!!!

Your gun is for your own personal defense and/or any of your loved ones that might happen to be with you. If you hear shooting take cover & prepare to defend yourself. Since you visit the mall regularly, you should know where all the exits are and best places to take cover. If the mall has security, try to introduce yourself somehow without being too obvious about it. If given an opportunity to take out a shooter, only you can decide if the risk is worth it.
You could probably modify one of those water bottle backpacks to conceal a gun and holster. If you’re an older guy, one of those back brace type belts would work too. People would not see you as a threat, which might work to your advantage.
Get some buddies who also have their permits and y’all open carry while doing your walking together. Open carry is allowed with a permit in Texas.
It would also be an awesome deterrent if someone decided to shoot up the place and was discouraged from doing so when he saw a large group of packing folks out and about on their daily stroll.
My intention is to never be a hero. It is to not be a victim.

I would take cover and only shoot if I had a clear, close shot with nobody else in my line of fire.
Just a mention from experience. When in a city, gunshot sounds are very hard to guess the direction. You can heat them behind you go forward and turn the corner and be face to face with the killers. Sounds from a gun reflect off of buildings in a downtown city street is very strange ways.
Be alert and trust your eyes more than your ears.
Earlier this year I purchased the Galco Miami Classic Shoulder Holster and I have found this quite comfortable. I wear the holster over a t-shirt then wear a 2XL untucked button-up workshirt, campshirt or Hawaiian style shirt to cover-up.

I think you need to go back to class and refine your attitude and approach. Dreams of drawing a hand gun out and going toward a “sound” with a raised firearm are not fitting my idea of a healthy approach.
Personal and family defense when clearly confronted by deadly force would prompt me to use my weapon. Little else.
I carry in church and other large groups but out walking I carry a 5’3” large diameter staff and running shorts.
Get a Sig P365.

Got it out, it says mod 4006. Didn’t know their were mods. I think they came out in ‘93 and the CHP bought enough for all their troops. The LA Times was running continuous stories about how civilians should not be allowed to have/own guns. So I had to go out and get one.

Like you, I live in a place where such events are unlikely. I can go to the local grocery store or Walmart on any given day and usually spot a couple of people open carrying. The rule of thumb is what, 2 or 3 concealed carriers for every open carrier? Something like that. It has been that way in my community for the past couple of decades, everyone knows there are firearms around, always. Makes a great deterrent to serious crime. Though apparently not to some teenage punks committing petty car/garage burglary in the last couple of years. If it doesn't stop, eventually they are going to run across the wrong person at the wrong time...
OK people, I got it dialed back a bit. Its just wanting to do something/stop the crap of of the last 3 days.
