Bouguereau was the epitome of a French academy painter. Classically trained and meticulous in his work, he won awards and commanded high prices for his art. He painted over 600 paintings, which appear in museums around the world. Heavy on nudes, and peaceful and beautiful women and children, THIS type of art is what the Impressionists were rebelling against. Thomas Campion's poem, "The Peaceful Western Wind" is sung by Shannon Mercer.

Fascinating!
I know this seems a little crazy, but I’ve been wondering if the Impressionists are the Democrats and the Academy painters are the Republicans. Because much as I love the Impressionists, the Academy pieces really have me caught.
That bottom one is really pretty.
Here’s the nude version of that Academy/Impressionism mix.

We all often fall back on what is familiar to us. Why not an artist?
Although I like select Impressionist works, I far prefer this style. This artist is one of the best.
Thanks.
The pic of the little girl with the book at 2:35 is really a nice one.
Agree with you completely. I like things like Monet’s Parliament Buildings at Sunset. But the faces often look like my work - smudged to avoid doing them. This is expertise on the hoof, which I always venerate.

As I stare at it, I’m thinking that in order to get the colorful cover on the side that shows, she’s holding the book upside down.
Yes, very possible.
