Blaming peers, social media, the Internet and whatever else the kids got the idea from, is not any kind of sufficient excuse. By eleven years old, just on parental rearing alone, the kid should have seen the idea as idiotic and not a “friendly” prank.
A friendly prank would have been to pour ice cold water on your friend. The prankster might get busted upside the head, though.
