I'm in the market for one or the other. Nissans are cheaper-more bang for the buck? An earlier post/article suggested Nissan could go belly up. The article suggested now is the time to buy. I remember the Datsun pick-up. Good truck. You folks are my go-to guys.
Personally, I am a Nissan customer. I am on my 7th Titan (XD Diesel) and have not had a problem with any (with exception to DEF fluid issues with cold weather).
I have travelled extensively to Bolivia and the ranchers I work with all drove Toyotas. Their reasoning is the Toys did not rattle loose as Nissan’s did on bad roads.
Sorry for the ramblings but Toys are good vehicles but you will pay more.
Or you get and refurbish one of these!
Do I really need to say this is a joke?
Have you considered a Canyon or Colorado?
I drove a Canyon with the small Duramax and it was very impressive. The owner (a friend) is getting some great fuel mileage out of it around 28-30 mpg.
Also the new Ford Ranger looks real nice.
Im working on a deal for a leftover new 2018 Ram diesel Bighorn 4x4 quad cab. As of right now they are $12k off sticker price but Im holding out for $15k off. Original sticker is $62k.
Just a piece of advice - KBB is produced-for-the-masses trash. Try to get ahold of a NADA book, much more accurate and true.
Just bought
FORD F250 XL
Super Cab with
8ft.bed.
6.2 gasser.
Looks like I
Chose Wisely.
Just earlier today i read a story, will Nissan still exist after 2022 it is doing so poorly.
Like Pontiac, you may think twice as getting service and parts may become a problem there.
Just saying.
DEF issues in cold weather can be mitigated for the most part by always keeping the DEF tank full when parked.
Much depends on whether you are looking for a long-term keeper or a few years, then trade. I find it useful to think in terms of how much it costs per year to own the vehicle (not including fuel & oil changes). My 1998 3.4L 4x4 ext cab Tacoma has maybe 10 years left in it (needs a paint job). Cost plus maintenance less conservative resale value divided by the 17 years I’ve had it = about $820/year. My brother’s Nissan Frontier was ready for the boneyard in about 7 years. Cost him about $1800 per year. I can’t vouch for the current products, but Tacoma used to have a huge quality edge.
COYOTE engine,,,
6.2 gasser?
Strong like Bull!
I had a 1993 Dodge Dakota prior to getting the Frontier. The Dakota was troublefree and had 140,000 miles on it when I sold it.

There are several videos online showing the production facilities in San Antonio, where Tacos are made. Fascinating.
If he was looking at full size pickups I'd agree those would be good choices but in the mid size market the Tacoma can't be beat. For proof look at what people are paying for the Tacoma's when they are 15 years old vs the Nissan or even the Ford Ranger's.
People are getting 300k, 400k, even 500k out of the Tacoma/4Runner/Highlander's without replacing engines or transmissions. Like anything; it just depends on how well they are maintained. Most people neglect everything except the engine oil changes but they are just as important. Running a transmission cooler with external filter (like the Magnafine) will extend the life of any trans; especially if any towing is involved.
When I change trans fluid I use a low pressure 12V pump to pump in new fluid as the engine pumps out the old stuff so a complete fluid change happens. This must be done with the vehicle in neutral or in gear so the torque converter fluid, which can be a gallon or more, is also changed. Some good videos on Youtube about how to do this.
RAM 1500 with a Hemi.
Good point!
Why not F-150? Best selling truck in the world.
Isn’t Ford bringing back the Ranger?
