In June, thousands of dockworkers marched at the Port of Los Angeles against the coming introduction of robotic machines threatening their jobs. And they are not alone in fearing automation. According to a recent Pew Research survey, a staggering 85% of Americans support policies to restrict the rise of robots. We even have a presidential candidate in Andrew Yang running to protect jobs from automation. Economists tend to dismiss anti-technology sentiment as backwards and Luddite. But they miss an important point. As I argue in my new book, The Technology Trap, The Luddites, who smashed machinery during the Industrial Revolution, were right to fight back. Much like today's factory workers, they weren't going to benefit from new technology.

Robots dont steal stuff from the docks, either.
Every job is at risk. Even doctors. I see a medical booth in the near future. You step in, the door closes and the checkup begins. Sonic, inferred, air pressure, x-ray etc.
Robots won’t steal, go on strike, call in *sick* after a long weekend.
Universal Bacon Income Is only possible during times of a sizzling economy.
The job is to produce goods/services objectively worth $X/hr.
The cost to hire someone/thing to do that job is objectively $Y/hr.
If Y>X, you’re losing money.
If Y>X for a human, but Y<X for a robot, you hire the robot.
It’s up to the worker to compete.
It’s up to the worker to earn a living.
Re: Bacon
The deli department in one of my local grocery stores has an entire section dedicated to bacon.
Perhaps the hungry masses of displaced workers can be mollified with Universal Bacon coupons!
Never mind gold, back the dollar with bacon:)
I agree that there is a possible threat. Take, for example, the bots of Ilona Mask who beat the people in Dota 2. The bots learn, accumulate knowledge and form their own intellect. I often play Dota 2 and even bet on https://esportzbet.com/dota2-betting-sites and watch this whole situation. I’ll tell you what - it is very likely that we will soon end the same way as in the movie I am a robot.
So why stop there? Just remove the seats and cover the floor with hay. Treat the passengers like cattle that will save even more money.
DON'T give them any ideas!
The passengers that break a leg during take off & and landing you shoot right?
There will be jobs, but not careers.
Science fiction movies arent science fiction...theyre roadmaps. Think I, Robot.

Well, I read a LOT of sci-fi in my younger days.
So do we include the songs/album by Allan Parsons project in your “formulation”, also?
Somehow that word “fiction” contradicts what you are claiming.
This time, it really is different.

Baloney
It is always different. It’s called progress.
I agree - but not for jobs.
The good news - physically unpleasant jobs and highly repetitive jobs will be replaced by the Universal Basic Income.
Also, the productivity explosion will lower the price of goods and services, which will be a follow-on benefit for the millions of unemployed Americans on UBI.
On the other hand, the 2020-2040 transition to a machine and AI software focused economy will be very disruptive and politically dangerous.
