I caught that—believe it or not.
I had ancestors in the area at the time, and know that the best thing to do with someone that you think is a witch is see if you can drown them. It’s the American way.
And of course, they would recognize that Oregon is the proper place for a witch because:
BEDEVERE: So, why do witches burn?

VILLAGER #3: B—... ‘cause they’re made of wood?
BEDEVERE: Good!
CROWD: Oh yeah, yeah.
BEDEVERE: So, how do we tell whether she is made of wood?

VILLAGER #1: If... she... weighs the same as a duck.. she’s made of wood.
BEDEVERE: And therefore?
VILLAGER #1: A witch!
And Eugene is home of the Oregon Ducks, and university of Oregon grads would see nothing odd about electing a dragon (or a witch) to the governorship. I’m sure they’d rather that than a Republican.
That said, my ancestors cleared out of Salem Mass. fairly quick, headed west, (several eventually were planted in Salem Ore.) and either honed a perverse backwoods sense of humour or intermarried with those that possessed it —if the humour was already honed that may have been why they needed to clear out of Salem Mass. .
That’s why I pinged gundog—who isn’t kin but does have a sense of humour and knows current Oregon politics much better than I.
Unfortunately, unless I grew gills (or had them implanted) the familial wanderlust couldn’t be satisfied through the method employed for the past four centuries of heading west, so I have been diverted to Canada, and now can demonstrate that I is cultured by spelling “humor” with a second “u.”
