Plans to no longer serve children pork or gelatin-containing products like gummy bears at two day care centers in the eastern German city of Leipzig prompted a wave of criticism online and made headlines across the country on Tuesday.
The mass-circulation Bild newspaper first reported about the day care centers proposal, saying the decision to make the changes came from consideration for two Muslim children.
Out of respect for a changing world, only pork-free meals and snacks will be ordered and served starting from July 15, read a letter sent to parents, according to Bild.
Responses to the plans grew so heated that Leipzig police decided to park patrol cars outside both of the day care centers to protect against possible dangers, a spokesman told news agency DPA.
By the evening, the director of the two centers said they were putting the plans on hold for now following the outrage.
Were overwhelmed by the whole thing, day care center director Wolfgang Schäfer told DPA.

Haha <3
The mooselimbs are just so sensitive!
What about headcheese?
Probably the gelatin is.
Seems like a lot of comments here missed the part where there was great backlash against this plan by one (1) idiot. People are NOT standing for this.
Ha. Gone, too.
Wow.
Just curious... What town did you live in?Always interesting to read from people that have been in Deutschland.
Cullman, Alabama. I am not German, and I have never been to Germany, but we have a pretty vibrant Oktoberfest here, and there are a couple of restaurants that will serve you some German food. Lots of German surnames left in the area. Cullman was incorporated along the L&N railroad in 1873.
Also, we have a local brewery that brews a beer from an old German recipe that they found in a relative’s house. The recipe was written in German and they had to have it translated. It is a great beer called Richter’s Pilsner. The name of the brewery is Goat Island Brewery. They produce several other brews.
Oh ok. I misunderstood your post... Thanks for your reply!
Sounds like a great town when Oktoberfest comes around. ;)
I’m not much of a beer drinker, but they sure have some amazing brews.
Not easy to do ‘true’ German beer with the purity laws they have since 1516.
That’s cultural oppression, for the newcomers to force everyone to abide by THEIR dietary restrictions.
