Comparing Ah: Which 20V Lithium-Ion batteries will provide a longer run time (on a String Trimmer, before recharging): one 5.0Ah or two 3.0Ah batteries?
The 20 Volt 3000mAh Lithium Battery is here, and the 20V 5.0Ah Lithium Battery is here.
You are not thinking it out correctly.
The longer the run time, the less beer to drink while charging before resuming the chore.
I don’t have an answer to your questionjust an observation. I have a 40v chainsaw. I see two great advantages: There is no issue with starting it, and more importantly, the saw runs out of energy about the same time I do.
Good luck with your quest for the perfect string trimmer.
Two 3 Ah batteries will give you 20% more charged run time than a 5 Ah battery, but would require one change out of a spent battery.
2 * 3 Ah = 6 Ah
6 Ah > 5 Ah
Plus with the two, one can be on the charger while the other is in use. 20V 3 Ah could charge very quickly depending on the charger and battery or really slow too. Remember do not charge a battery while it is hot from use unless your charger senses battery temp and manages all that.
Ha!
The two advantages I always point out about my electric weed eater!
20 minutes and it’s Miller Time.
If they weren’t so expensive, I’d buy a $400 self-propelled battery powered lawn mower and fire my gardeners. We’ve come a long long way I’m here to tell you!
https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER-BDCAC202B-Lithium-Charger/dp/B010BFHORK
This will charge a 3 Ah in 1.5 hrs
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074V7KGVT/ref=emc_b_5_t
This will charge same in about 9 hrs
for 5 Ah in about 3/17 hrs
Agree. However there’s a lot of fraud and mislabelling of Li-Ion products so that’s only true if the cells inside the pack are actually capable of providing what the nameplate states. I’ve bought 18650 cells that were labelled as 2400mAH capacity that in fact are only 250 mAH. The damn chinese cheats put a tiny li=po battery in the housing and fill it with sand so it weighs the correct amount. Bastards.
Well, I do not drink (alcohol) and it takes about 3.5 hrs to charge the one battery I have in the trimmer.
Thanks! The two 3 Ah batteries at is what I was inclined to choose. No reviews onm these two yet though.
Thanks for the confirmation.
Remember do not charge a battery while it is hot from use unless your charger senses battery temp and manages all that.
Yes, i sometimes put the one battery I have for the trimmer in the fridge if i need to charge it soon
What next, one that will identify and dig up weeds in the garden? And hunt and kill rats and mice?
I’ve never found a string trimmer in whose string doesn’t break constantly when I use ut. Is there such a thing as a chain trimmer or a metal guitar string trimmer?
Wow, what a difference. The battery that came with the (older model ) BLACK+DECKER LSTE523 Li-On String Trimmer trimmer is only good for 15 minutes of constant heavy use, and takes about 3.5 hours to charge, not including the cooling of period before that.
It does not work as well as a plug in or gas one, but it is handy and relatively maintenance free. But it auto feeds more trimmer line when it senses it getting too short, and thus goes thru a lot, it would cost much more if buying the spools B+D (3-Pack $12.79) wants you to, rather than buying 11 refills, 220 ft for $10.15 & FREE Shipping on orders over $25
Thank God for what we can do and help others.
I had the same quest, and tried to use bicycle brake cable, but which lasted about 4 seconds. Hard to believe, and which was potentially dangerous, as some other metal options would be. Maybe some type of fishing line would work.
Posting your question on a Sat. morning should get some interesting replies.
I could have waited but wanted to make a choice sooner. The weather here has been exceptional for growing, an answered prayer, but weeds come included.
If you are losing string like you say, it sounds like you have forgotten that it’s ONLY THE TIP of the string that does the cutting.
If you try to force the feed too fast, the string will fail every time.
Slow and easy is the best way to run a string trimmer. If you want to go hard and fast, get a sickle bar mower and knock yourself out.
40V Home Depot special (Ryobi) used here. One charges gives about 20 minutes of continuous cutting on grass. Tearing through thick weeds, blackberries and wild rose cuts it down to about 15 minutes.
I’ve bot the same battery in a pole saw and slap it in when the first one dies. After that it’s time for a beer.
Charge time is about and hour and a half from dead zero.
