Rutger Hauer, the versatile Dutch leading man of the 70s who went on star in the 1982 Blade Runner as Roy Batty, died July 19 at his home in the Netherlands after a short illness. He was 75.
Hauers agent, Steve Kenis, confirmed the news and said that Hauers funeral was held Wednesday.
His most cherished performance came in a film that was a resounding flop on its original release. In 1982, he portrayed the murderous yet soulful Roy Batty, leader of a gang of outlaw replicants, opposite Harrison Ford in Ridley Scotts sci-fi noir opus Blade Runner. The picture became a widely influential cult favorite, and Batty proved to be Hauers most indelible role

Yes
His was the best character in that movie
I liked him in the cheesy “Wanted: Dead or Alive” as well as “Blade Runner” and “Nighthawks”.
Goodbye Mr. Hauer.
I enjoyed “Ladyhawke.”
Other than his role in Blade Runner, I thought he was incredible as a psychotic in The Hitcher.
Never saw those but I’ve seen a clip or two from Ladyhawke.
Aw, sorry to hear that.
RIP Rutger. Thank you for your movies.
Absolute great character in Blade Runner.

Was he the black knight in that one? Kind of a bad good guy or a good bad guy.
Overall, a great screen actor. “Blade Runner” was one of my favorite movies until I sort of outgrew Sci Fi at around age 40. Still remember it well, however.
My favorite Rutger Hauer movies
Escape from Sobibor (you can catch it on You Tube)
The Hitcher
Night Hawks
Great Actor. The rumor was he was up for the part of Lestat in Interview with the Vampire and would have been much better than Tom Cruise.
Well...Dang. RIP
"Didn't you get the memo?"
What of the most unrecognized greatest and ad-libbed scenes in history. Very sad to hear of his passing.
Time to die.
Dang. So sorry to hear. Well respected actor though many many years, never received the attention I thought he deserved.
He played quite a few memorable bad guy characters and sold them so well. His John Ryder character in the original The Hitcher co-starring with C Thomas Howell always creeped me out.
RIP Mr. Hauer
Loved ‘Blade Runner’
R.I.P.
For some reason this film caught my imagination, and I went to see it three or four times, at the little foreign movie theater in the town I lived in... I was a fan of Hauer ever since.
Coincidently, I got bumped up to first class on a flight to Europe, and he and his wife were seated a couple of seats over... But of course I didn't speak to him, it didn't seem right to bother him. But I was impressed.
Close ... but no cigar!
The movie was called Hobo With A Shotgun and it IS a terrific movie ... in a guilty pleasure sort of way. Its a back alley/gutter vigilante movie that apes the Death Wish franchise by taking the theme into some darker turf.
If you are ever in a discussion about top movies of all time, like maybe To Kill A Mockingbird and/or Chariots of Fire ... just drop in Hobo With A Shotgun to get the discussion back down to planet Earth!
I have it on DVD.

This one hits deep; loved Rutger in so many films. I think my favorite was “The Blood of Heroes”, probably because he was the good guy for a change.
