Aftershocks of the magnitude 7.1 earthquake near Ridgecrest have been creeping into areas close to two major earthquake faults, a development that is generating interest and some concern among seismologists over whether it could trigger another huge temblor.
Both faults are capable of producing new earthquakes of magnitude 7 or greater. The U.S. Geological Survey says the chance of an earthquake of magnitude 7 or greater from the July 5 earthquake is 1 in 300 possible, but with a low probability.

"Temblors" is gay.
I'm sure there are better words to use which are less gay.
Oh great. My hovel is going to be demolished by a homo seismo.
Flutters?
Quiverings?
Not my fault. Blame Thesaurus.com.
I was visiting my former home state of California when the recent 7.1 struck. My 3-story hotel rocked and rolled. Now I am safely back in Arizona, where today it is 110 degrees. Even so, I’d rather be here than there.

The potential energy release (magnitude) for a BIG one in central or southern Cali (mainly sideways movement along the fault zones) is much less than than if a subduction zone gives. Not that the damage could not be significant in Cali, it very much would.
And, if (actually "when") the Cascadia zone unzips, the enormous ground shaking damage will likely pale in comparison to the tsunami damage along the coast areas. (Could happen tomorrow, could happen in another century. )
Oddly, people worry about hoaxes such as "climate change", when they should be planning and preparing for genuine risks.
.
I’ll say this for Dutchsinse, he’s entertaining. The man can talk non-stop for hours. And his emphasis on the North American craton is interesting.
But he thinks micro-quakes at or near the surface are more significant than can be justified, and his methodology overall is hoakum.
Even more discouraging is that he doesn’t seem to understand that the “energy” behind the quakes is delivered by the movement of the tectonic plates (not around the plates). Which in California, at least, is south to north. Not north to south.
Tremblors Gay?
Tremblors are Queer!

110°?
Come to Reno.
It’s not Hell, but you can see Sparks from here...
DUTCHSINSE makes more sense than the USGS.
Har-har!
If the trailer’s a rockin,don’t come a knockin!
Just felt a dorky 4.3 in Oakland, CA...(Epicent 12km east of Black Hawk...)
I turned around to my colleagues and exclaimed “Is that all you got?”
[but you can see Sparks from here]
Woohoo!!
"Theres a rule to seismology that will probably come as a disappointment to many earthquakes dont actually reduce the risk of future quakes; they increase them.
Every earthquake actually increases the probability of more earthquakes, Page said.
In fact, earthquake scientists actually model quakes like disease epidemics. Its based on the idea on how a contagion spreads to a population, she said. Earthquakes are like that in general, if there are a lot of earthquakes going on, its more probable for a large earthquake to go on.
While earthquakes do relieve stress to some areas around them, we become less safe after earthquakes because they redistribute the stress and can push other faults in the area to failure, Page said.
In the example above, the areas stressed by the 1872 Owens Valley earthquake are shown along with all earthquakes of magnitude 4 or higher that have occurred since 1985 when enhanced measurment became possible. You can easily see that the stressed areas are where the most seismic activity has taken place, including the recent quakes in the vicinity of Ridgecrest.
That’s called damning with faint praise.
Dum sunzabltchs wanna live there? Let them live there.
Whats all this HAPPY CRAP about, like, Ohhhh, it MIGHT happen sometime...
KIDS!
ITS A QUESTION OF ***WHEN***, NOT IF.
There goes ‘Fransico go go Godzilla.
