I’ve lived here for years. This is not new at all. In the 80’s during land crab season, you had to be very careful driving down US 1 in the evenings because there were so many on the road that you couldn’t help but squish them. Pop your tires too!

US 1 looked like it was moving. There were thousands

Although I will clarify, with as much construction over the years down here I imagine the crabs keep moving around to avoid it. Their habitats have become smaller so when something like this happens now it seems like new phenomenon

I once found a stone crab in my pool (Hobe Sound). Fished him out, boy was he angry.

I grew up in Hollywood, Fl (60's)...you're right...this is not new...I can remember Dania Beach Blvd being covered with land crabs...so many you couldn't avoid running over them...and a day later when the sun had baked them on the asphalt, the smell was horrendous!

I remember the Cubans chasing them around with hooked sticks. They’d (the crabs)get into the laundry room at the dorms ( HomesteadAFB) and you’d hear their claws clacking against the washers and dryers.
