The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office says 69-year-old Barbara Thomas, of Bullhead City, was last seen Friday wearing a black bikini, a red baseball cap and tan hiking boots with black socks.

The office says Thomas and her husband were hiking in the Mojave Desert approximately 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of the I-40 freeway when they got separated.

That would be one heck of a walk from Bullhead City to Bishop.

This is not good. It has been very hot in the California deserts the last few days. It was 124 degrees in the Imperial Valley today which is in the low desert, but it gives you some idea.

That's what I'm wondering too.

To jump to conclusions so soon just isn't Ferris.

Thank God. What suffering she must have endured. Poor woman.

A guy I used to work with died out there when his car broke down on I-40. Evidently he used an emergency phone for help, and then abandoned his car. I haven’t been down there for ages, but I figured there would be enough traffic for someone to notice him. I guess the August heat got him pretty fast.

How do you get separated in the Mojave Desert?

The Mojave Desert contains many rugged mountain ranges where one could get separated.

But if she is 20 miles north of I-40, she would not be all that far from a road--I-15 to the north, Rte. 95, Rte. 62, Kelbaker Road (between Kelso and Baker), Cima Road, or Nipton Road (between I-15 and Searchlight, Nev.) All of these roads should have traffic.

“Didn’t have supplies..”

Like, inadequate amounts of water?

As other commenters in the original article say, there is no other news of her being found or in bishop. Just that one commenter’s comment. And I can find no other report saying she has been found alive. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Not likely, that’s nearly 250 miles away from where she was last seen.

That would be one heck of a walk from Bullhead City to Bishop.

Indeed, it would be. The shortest route would be through Death Valley. I once took that route from Las Vegas to Bishop.
