I have no idea.
I never put any effort into studying grammar. Having to learn a specialized language of participles and post positive possessive whatevers to speak and write a language I already kinda sorta talked and wrote never made any sense to me, as a elementary school kid.
Wish I hadn’t been so full of myself back then. Maybe I’d make more sense now.
Note to any kids that might read this. Pay attention to your grammar lessons! You do *not* want to grow up sounding like an idiot.
I did a lot of homeschooling and tutoring long ago. I read many books about learning, teaching, etc.
I read about one study that used three groups of children:
1. One group studied grammar.
2. One group read good literature and studied grammar.
3. One group read good literature and did not study grammar.
Guess which group wrote the best English.
Group number 3.
I have a natural knack for language. i could always tell you what the right wording was by the sound of it, but when it came to declaratives, and possessives, and articles and participles and declensions and conjugations... I always got lost. Couldn’t tell you a present particle from a gerund. Well, yes I could They’re the two types of words that end with ‘ing’.
In addition, the grammar terms that one learns in English are very helpful when it’s time to learn a foreign language.
