Body camera video released Friday by Fullerton police shows that the 17-year-old girl killed in a police shooting on an Anaheim freeway had exited her vehicle and was holding a fake gun, according to police.
Hannah Williams can only briefly be seen outside the gray rental SUV she was in before she's shot on the eastbound 91 Freeway near Kramer Boulevard on July 5. Fullerton police say the replica Beretta later found near her body can be seen in her hands, pointed at the officer.
The bodycam's audio was not activated when the officer opened fire, so it's unclear exactly when she was shot. The audio cuts in as the officer is radioing, "Shots fired," while backing around the SUV.
Williams is next seen lying on her back on the freeway. The replica firearm is on the ground a few feet away.

The body cam video wasn’t very good. But I could see the word gun and the arrow very well.
Also lots of explaining about what to think by the public affairs officers.
I also thought it was kind of funny when the cop called for a medic and then started to shoot again.
Just another day in the police state. I feel so safe now.
Might’ve hit the mag release by accident during the draw or handling. Either way, it’s a training issue.

What’s really outrageous is the family wants the officer to suspended without pay. I reviewed the video and the officer was faced with a situation that he had to respond to immediately. There is no way for him to know that it was a replica pistol, as the federally mandated orange barrel plug was not on the pistol. What the hell was the family thinking when they possessed a replica that was easily mistaken for a real pistol? And now they’ll want millions for their own stupidity and the stupidity of their now dead family member.
Looked like the mag tried to drop, he hit it and racked the slide.
Initially, I had that thought too. But, after listening some more, seemed more like it was audio overloading the microphone, and not more shots.
I wish more cops would have non-lethal options so they wouldn’t have to kill a crazy person for pointing a screwdriver at them, but if it looks like a real gun they have no choice.
I didn't see the mag drop. Hitting the mag and racking the slide is part of the "tap/rack" drill. May have just been a failure to eject.
It could also be that he squeezed the trigger before it went all the way to the reset point and he just thought he had a problem, then instinctively did the tap/rack drill. Glocks have a nice short reset but I guess it's still possible.
Sorry, there is no such thing as non-lethal, only lethal and less lethal.
However, the first guy or gal that can make a weapon that completely incapacitates a suspect at extended distances without any lasting damage, wirelessly and not affected by clothing, is going to make bank.
If one of my kids pulled a fake gun on an officer, as devastated as I would be, I would be ok with them shooting him dead.
Sounds like it may have been a suicide by cop.
And the young lady was clearly unstable and had mental issues as I mentioned several days ago...The video and witnesses paint a clear picture.
No offense but you’re FOS. Independent witness stated she existed her vesicle looking angry and with both hands pointed what appeared to be a weapon right at the cop. As she was walking towards the cop, she was told her 3 times to stop and drop it and she failed to do so, and she was shot 3 times.
In addition, she tried to kill the cop prior to her ever existing her vehicle, when she intentionally ran into the cops vehicle...Then she made a U-turn on the freeway. This ding was clearly dangerous.
Suicide by cop. Sympathy for the cop, and her family. The lawyer showed some integrity there.
> I wish more cops would have non-lethal options...
Hmm, should I use my taser, baton, beanbags or gun. Never mind. Too late. I’m dead...
I’m definitely not a worshiper of blue, but at least one person has to be ready with deadly force.
Unfortunately in the instance it was one cop alone. So like you said, he had no choice.
I appreciate that the family and the attorney are willing to admit that it may have been the girl’s own fault. Rare anymore.
The really didn’t have a choice. The cops version was backed not only by video, but independent witnesses and signification physical evidence.
I want to know why Daddy thought it was ok for his daughter to take off in a rental vehicle, one I am sure the contract stated was only to be driven by a licensed driver over the age of 25, when she did not have a driver’s license. “Oh she was just going out to practice in a vehicle they were sharing.” REALLY?????
No wonder the daughter was screwed up! The parents don’t seem to think that the rules apply to them. I would never allow my 17 year old child who only had a permit to drive alone in my car, to heck with one that didn’t even belong to me.
Sorry she was shot but play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Just glad the officer wasn’t injured by her or the vehicle.
