First: LOL. Brilliantly played. Second: I feel kind of dumb now because while I have engaged in many many discussions of The Prisoner and pushed the Drake theory hard, I have never thought of that line from the song as proof. Admittedly the song was only for the American broadcast of the retitled show, but still McGoohan had to have heard it.
In the fantasy episode, in the boxing ring, it sounds like the M.C. says John Drake, or something Drake, in a fast, slurred voice.
Further, in the body switch episode, his former love calls him John.
McGoohan denied 6 was Drake, but he often got devious about the series.
My opinion is that this was indeed Drake later, much more jaded, but too valuable to simply eliminate.
