The wagon from the '80s is a split bench. The car seat won't fit on one of those (gap in the middle). Ideally you would have a solid bench like in our four door Dodge Darts. (Here is a British car with a solid front bench):

I know my photos aren’t that great, but that it my daily driver, and it does have a full bench seat, front & rear; a nice arm rest is positioned midway.

It draws a lot of inquiries, when I go to town for errands. I am surprised how many folks [ male & female] know so much about cars from this era. Fun stuff.
