OTTAWA, Ontario (CBS Local) A driver in Canada who allegedly strapped a toddler to a beer case instead of a car seat was charged with failing to properly secure a child, police said.
The 22-year-old driver was pulled over early Tuesday at around 2:30 a.m. in the village of Atwood, near Listowel, therecord.com reported. Ontario Provincial Police officers say a 2-year-old child was also in the car, sitting on a 30-can case of beer.
The Wellington North driver, who was not unidentified in order to protect the childs privacy, had allegedly put the case on the seat of his car and strapped the child to it.
The toddler was not injured. A child seat was brought to the driver, and Family and Childrens Services was notified of the incident, CP24 reported.

Then Detroit got safety conscious.
Seat belts undoubtedly save lives. There is, however, evidence that child booster seats provide no more safety to children than using adult seat belts and are only effective at preventing minor injuries.
There's even evidence to suggest that booster seats may be LESS safe for children than seat belts.
Booster seats would be entirely unnecessary if automakers were to reposition rear seat belts to be more accommodating to children as children are almost always the rear seat passengers in vehicles. Instead, rear seat belts are positioned for grown adults who rarely sit in the back seat.
Agree on all counts regarding booster seats. The requirements of child seats, booster seats until 80 pounds, high powered air bags in the front, have resulted in growing families that used to get by on a mid-sized sedan forced into minivans, cross-overs, SUVs, and full-seized vans. The number of children killed who were belted in the middle back seat was something like five per year. Those were probably accidents that would have killed them regardless of technology. They don’t need rear seat headrests, either. The policy makers think that they can get zero without making cars unbearably inconvenient or unaffordable. We get to suffer while they chase that dream.
I love the old style child seat. Won’t work today because front benches don’t exist anymore. I started out life in a ‘61 Lancer. I had the deluxe seat, with integrated horn and steering wheel. Kept me from bothering my mother.
Ahem....yes they do;t have to buy a car from the 80s. :)
The stupid has no borders. Florida man is everywhere.
I know my photos aren’t that great, but that it my daily driver, and it does have a full bench seat, front & rear; a nice arm rest is positioned midway.
It draws a lot of inquiries, when I go to town for errands. I am surprised how many folks [ male & female] know so much about cars from this era. Fun stuff.
Gas station water glasses and large jam jars were all I drank out of growing up.
Grandma would make sure all the Mason jars matched when company came calling. Anything less was undignified.
