OTTAWA, Ontario (CBS Local) A driver in Canada who allegedly strapped a toddler to a beer case instead of a car seat was charged with failing to properly secure a child, police said.
The 22-year-old driver was pulled over early Tuesday at around 2:30 a.m. in the village of Atwood, near Listowel, therecord.com reported. Ontario Provincial Police officers say a 2-year-old child was also in the car, sitting on a 30-can case of beer.
The Wellington North driver, who was not unidentified in order to protect the childs privacy, had allegedly put the case on the seat of his car and strapped the child to it.
The toddler was not injured. A child seat was brought to the driver, and Family and Childrens Services was notified of the incident, CP24 reported.

I was often told that I was brought home from the hospital in a Hamms Beer case. Just assumed it to be true it was the sixties, those were nice boxes, and returning the bottles probably paid for the gas.

Are traffic deaths down?
Yeah, traffic deaths are down, way down from the pre-belt days. There's a lot of reasons for it, but the seat belts are a big part of it.

It might be but who knows for sure these days with so many beer brands around. Both the major brewers Labatts and Molsons are foreign owned so there is no longer any patriotic loyalty to them anymore just like bud in the US.

Gas station water glasses and large jam jars were all I drank out of growing up.

It was well over 50,000 in the '60s. Not only has the population risen, but people drive a LOT more now. The number of deaths per mile is MUCH lower.
