Thief Beaten to Death After Stealing Car With Kids Inside, Police Say
NBC Philadelphia ^ | 07.12.2019 | David Chang

A father chased after a car thief who stole a vehicle with his children inside and then beat him to death with help from bystanders Thursday night in Philadelphia, police said.

The ordeal began around 9 p.m. when a 25-year-old woman parked her Hyundai outside a pizza shop on 29th and Dauphin streets. The woman went inside the shop to visit her 25-year-old boyfriend who worked there but left her three young children inside the running vehicle, police said.

29th and Dauphin. 29 is a pretty low number. When I lived near Philly all of North Philly was “not Italian” and there was a “South Philly” that wasn’t. If you were nonItalian you really wouldn’t be real welcome in that part of the city. I see no mention of Italian vs nonItalian in the story but knowing what I do about Philly I would bet it IS an issue in this story.

There was a recent American Ninja Warrior with a contestant who had something like 8 siblings and his parents were both from large families. The guy had 119 FIRST cousins. They all looked VERY “Scandinavian”. When we were young in the 60s we were told “responsible people” only have two kids. Now I’m sorry. I shoulda had 15.

Kids’ ages are 7mos, 1.5yrs, 5yrs. Thief definitely put their well-being in danger and had no concern whatsoever even for their lives. No sympathy for him.

Opportunist. With as hot as it has been on the East coast, guy didn’t feel like walking. I have to wonder what he was going to do with the three children.

Frontier justice also. The car is the contemporary version of the horse and horse thieves were dealt with via a rope. This is a good development.

I only have five, but my best friend at Ft Hood has 18, yes 18, that is not a typo. Most of the rest of my friends in that circle have five - seven.

But again, they do not do anything to get the press interested in them, go quietly along getting jobs, getting married, having more kids, and making a very solid core in the USA.

A lot of people believe the target of the theft was the car. Could the target have been the children?

Now take the children from the idiot called Mother and give them to the Father. This wouldn’t have happened if she didn’t leave them in the running car while she visited her boyfriend in a pizza place.

Your equating the car and the horse may not be correct. As I understand it, and please correct me, to be on foot in Indian country was a death sentence during that time.

Being in the wrong part of town at the wrong time or perhaps any time can be a death sentence.

...not if I were on the jury.

I would NOT vote to convict on any level of charge in this matter. I would have prosecutors and/or police arrested and caned who would even suggest such a thing. Truly.

This woman and man who had the kids are not perfect people and I am not defending their lifestyle. HOWEVER, the thief didn’t know that and it doesn’t matter. the POINT is, he stole a car with three children inside and took off. THAT is the ONLY point that matters. It does not make it a lesser crime because one might not like the lifestyle nor politics of the couple involved.

Yes this woman made a bad choice leaving her kids in the car, but the blame here rests with the criminal, and I am not going to cry over his death.

Exactly. Charge her with a lesser crime of neglect or whatever. BUT, the guy who took of with children got exactly what he deserved.
