Leaky roofs. Outdated fire sprinkler systems. Aging patrol vehicles. No holding cells for detainees. And to top it off, a chronic manpower shortage. These are some of the many problems hamstringing U.S. border operations.
That is, at the northern border the international boundary between the United States and Canada.
Congress last month finally passed emergency funding to deal with the humanitarian crisis at the southwestern border. However, a recent report from the Government Accountability Office reveals that it remains unclear whether legislators and bureaucrats will tackle the structural issues at Americas other border or continue to postpone much-needed modernization efforts as they divert resources to the southwest border.
It is unknown whether the staffing and resource challenges identified by [Customs and Border Protection] to secure the northern border between ports of entry will be addressed due to competing southwest border security priorities, read the GAO report. The report was first seen by the DHS in March and released to the public in late June after some details were redacted.

The Northern Border is guarded on the Northern side.
The Southern border is wide open....except for the few hundred feet of "adequate" fencing and the Rio Grande which is easily crossed in spots.
The biggest problem is the DROVES of people lying their a**** off when they get caught.
We’d pay more attention if millions of illegals were coming in from the North.
In fact, I’m kind of surprised the democrats haven’t started calling for tougher northern border enhancements so they can say they’re “being tough on the border”.
One Border at a a time. Get Mike Holmes to Make It Right.
The Africans who spend thousands of dollars to get into Mexico are not stupid. If it was that easy to cross from Canada, they would be going there.
People who actually do pay even a tiny more of attention are very aware that millions of illegals are coming in through the northern border. Many of them from Russia, Ukraine, or the lighter skinned Muslim countries like Albania.
It would have been a nice quip, if people were unaware that it wasn’t true.
Sure thing. That’s why so many Somalis live in Minnesota and Maine.
Well they didn’t come through Canada. GWB and Obama flew them in.
Windsor, Canada has about a 40% Muslim population and is located on the East side of the Detroit River adjacent to Detroit. We boated on the Great Lakes, primarily Lake Erie and Lake Huron our home marina being in Sandusky, Oh. We and many others would make occasional trips up to Windsor for weekend gambling trips. We would go to the top of Lake Erie, enter the Detroit and go about another hour to Windsor. We would check in to customs by phone, give our boat number, names of all onboard and how long we would stay. When we left Ontario, we would simply leave and go back the way we came, crossing back into US water. We could have anything or anyone we picked up in Windsor. Not one time were we ever checkboarded by the Coast Guard, even after 911. We dont know any other boaters who were either.
The Northern Border is a sieve, but nowhere as bad as the south.
Ha ha you think the great lakes are a moat. Cute. There are millions of boats on those lakes and loads of inlets and waterways to smuggle cargo. Prohibition didn’t work in that area because its damn easy to smuggle by boat.
Suddenly....out of the blue...comes the border patrol......gave him a good lecture...
Scared the cr** out of him.
The reality is....why would you want to go to Canada from the USA....unless there’s a draft.
Worse than both the north and south borders put together is the eastern border of CA.
Yes, I am well aware of that since it is only about 8 miles from my house.
