Hopefully we still have freedom of the press in the US.
I’m against harassment by paparazzi and intrusive spy type photos, but I think if you’re out in public, you’re fair game.
Or maybe this is one of those cases where someone protests because they are not getting enough attention?
Apparently she (or her security) just assumed that anyone taking a picture was taking a picture of HER.
In the article, a Mrs. Jones (former sportscaster) was approached by security. Turns out she was taking a picture of the tennis player and wasn’t aware that the Duchess was even present until she was approached. She asked him if he had thought of having a word with those television cameras? LOL. Another gentleman was taking a selfie with the tennis court in the background. Again, the assumption was made that he was photographing HER although you can see the phone screen with him and the tennis court showing.
I think you are right about not getting enough attention. She had the area around her all cleared out. Nothing like having a big bare spot in a crowded venue to make you stand out. She wore a hat and sunglasses, as if to “disguise” herself. She also wore jeans, normally banned at Wimbledon. I don’t think she could have drawn much more attention to herself without flashing neon lights!
The article points out that her sister-in-law attended a couple of days before, nicely dressed and sitting in a crowd of people and having no fuss made.
I also have to wonder why they made such a big deal of keeping their baby’s baptism, godparents, etc a secret. How many people actually care?
I also have to wonder on how many occasions the Queen has had people barred from taking pictures of her? Ever?
I agree with you about photographers climbing trees with telephoto lenses to take pictures through people’s windows but that surely wasn’t happening here.
Sorry, go from being a public figure in one country to a public figure in another country, don’t complain about it. If you wanted “privacy” so much then you should have married some super-rich guy who could buy you your own private island somewhere.
