Because nothing says you need other peoples money to keep from starving to death than using a luxury, overpriced, home delivery service for food.
I don't use this service (as others I know) because it's over priced!
I could see Amazon filling a need in areas that do not have sources of quality groceries, no grocery stores.
Food Stamps (EBT) should be discontinued, at least after three months. The whole system just perpetuates poverty.

Money is money..
I think the point is that people buying from Amazon are not idiots nor are they necessarily spendthrifts.
I often buy some food stuffs from amazon as they are cheaper and more available than the local market.
The point of delivery is many of these people are disabled.
This program started in NYC. Please post your evidence that a majority of those on food stamps are shut ins.
Go to any store at noon on a weekday.
Volunteer for meals on wheels.
One of the largest companies in the world, Amazon, just
shuttered its food delivery service, Amazon Restaurants.
But Amazon’s fails are a bit different.

Insofar as there is an EBT system, buying food thru Amazon is fine. Deals can be had, home delivery may be needed by the remote or immobile.
This solves the “but food deserts” complaint. Practically anyone anywhere can get near any need supplied at a decent price, most delivered in 2 days.
There are all kinds of expensive items in your local supermart or you can buy Ronin Noodles. Now there are more expensive Supermarkets that sell at higher prices. Would you prefer they buy Lobster and Prime Porterhouse there?
Same can be said for Amazon. You can buy high or low from either. IN fact for the old and infirm Amazon is better.
Plus they get human contact.
Actually, I’ve seen someone trying to buy lobster on food stamps be told they can’t buy it with their “Independence Card.” I’ve seen lots of what seems to be food stamp abuse.
Whatever Brother, not everyone is a bum gaming the system.
They sell food. The Fed probably requires them to accept food stamps.
Red herring
A red herring is something that misleads or distracts from a relevant or important question.[1] It may be either a logical fallacy or a literary device that leads readers or audiences toward a false conclusion. A red herring may be used intentionally, as in mystery fiction or as part of rhetorical strategies (e.g., in politics), or may be used in argumentation inadvertently.

Must be nice, they don’t even sell lobster around here. :)
