For those of you who grew up in the '60s, you may remember the haunting notes at the end of commercials for Eastern Airline. In them, the line "Fly Eastern, Number One To The Sun" was sung by a beautiful female vocalist, who hit every one of the cleverly arranged notes perfectly, seemingly without effort.

That singer was Astrud Gilberto, João Gilberto's wife.

Here is the music: Astrud Gilberto - "Number One to the Sun".

The words don't happen until 0:45 on the video.

Their daughter Bebel is pretty good too. Here's one of her songs: River Song - Bebel Gilberto.

I still listen to him on youtube. Thanks for the link, beat me to it. My fave song was “The Wave.” As I understand it, Frank Sinatra wrote the gorgeous lyrics:

“So close your eyes
For thats a lovely way to be
Aware of things your heart alone was meant to see...”

GREAT pianist Oscar Peterson played the best version of The Wave. I actually saw him at the London House in Chicago playing it....gee, I’m dating myself, but those were really sweet times. So glad I lived then and am still enjoying it now.

“In 1964, he famously collaborated with America saxophone player Stan Getz.”

Have the original vinyl...never gets old...always perfect.

I believe Astrud was João Gilberto's wife.

RIP, Mr. Gilberto.
