It’s VERY possible that certain foods can help.

As for me, I was on a number of SSRIs for a while from depression after a brain injury.

It was getting pretty bad until a doctor put me on Wellbutrin, which is an SRNI, I think.

I KNOW Wellbutrin is different in that is a DOPAMINE reuptake inhibitor and NOT A serotonin inhibitor.

Now some docs are saying it’s dopamine deficiency responsible for much depression and schizophrenia and NOT serotonin.

t would make sense in my case because Dopamine producing parts of my brain were damaged in the injury.

It has helped greatly. It is called the poor man’s cocaine but you needs a LOT of it to get that kind of high. A LOT.

As an aside, doctors are now saying that dopamine doesn’t cause pleasure, it just makes you want to seek out things that have brought you pleasure.

But without getting into detail, i am personal PROOF that dopamine causes pleasurable feelings.

Ah, what the hell. We’re all adults here.

I felt NOTHING during sex before Wellbutrin.

When I started taking it, I felt like the old me before the injury in that department.

So if there is NO pleasurable feeling during sex without the dopamine booster but pleasurable feelings WHILE taking it, is it indeed a pleasure neurotransmitter?

I dunno :) Seems that way.

Thanks for that info; that is fascinating and makes me wonder if people are put on the right antidepressant at all...

No wonder I always see women pawing over the broccoli at the market.

I’m really tiring of the biochemistry experiments we’re apparently encouraging out of desperation due to the failure of the medical establishment to make any tangible discoveries.

True story: I suffered a brain injury myself and suffered nearly 50% loss of cognitive ability. I had all the basics, but it affected my speech, short-term memory and many other factors. The worst was my ability to problem-solve. Math was nearly impossible; even counting change was challenging. I’m a creative person but I realized immediately that I could no longer design and build. It had physical manifestations as well, most particularly in my inability to type more than 20 wpm. I had every test. After seeing the neurologist - who said he could find nothing wrong with me and asked if I’d like a referral to a psychologist, I was obviously in a bad place. Worse, doc said if the symptoms persisted for more than 8 months they’d be permanent.

5 years later I was still compensating (that’s a word anyone who’s never had a brain injury cannot fully understand, right?). I’d endured other health matters (minor) which prompted my attempt to shift my diet into something I’d always considered fringe. I began to investigate the ramifications of systemic inflammation, in particular vascular inflammation.

After removing 3 compounds from my food intake simultaneously, approximately 90 days later it was like someone flipped a switch, or like I woke up after a 5 year nap. The ‘fog’ was GONE. Better, within a year I felt 20 years younger. No joke: I’m in better health than when I was 30.

Thousands of hours of research later I’m now convinced that inflammation is the leading cause of many maladies, some of which are the effects of others (meaning that some conditions are precursors). I also believe that chasing single-point fixes or attempting home alchemy to modify inflammation symptoms without removing the cause of inflammation is only compounding the problem.

I also believe that most doctors don’t earn their paycheck.

Obviously in my case it was just concussion and I’d never suggest that inflammation is the cause of brain injuries such as yours, but my experience is tantalizing, in consideration of the changes.

The doctors said it was impossible. I’m still 100% drug-free.
