HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities say a family of four, including two children, are in the hospital after a major car fire that was sparked by a road rage shooting in north Harris County.
The incident happened Thursday around 9:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of W. Mount Houston.
Authorities say the father got into some sort of argument with the suspect. That suspect pulled out a gun, and the father tried to drive off.
The gunman shot at the car, which set off fireworks in the vehicle, causing it to catch fire, deputies say.
"Family had bought fireworks. It is believed gunfire struck the fireworks causing them to ignite," Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.
Dramatic video shows flames overtaking the car.
And new surveillance video from a nearby gas station captured the moment the fireworks exploded.

Because everybody knows that non ferrous metals (Lead and copper) ignite things just by looking at them.
Tracers?!?!
Absurd.
I could not have written a more absurd script if I had tried. Has they say you cannot make stuff like that up.
Not completely: kinetic energy easily translates to heat, enough heat to ignite things. Coupled with easily ignited gunpowder, it would be close to certainty.
I handed my FAL loaded with ball ammo to a staff sergeant at Quantico during a fam shoot and he fired a couple of rounds at the edge of our cleared area - it it started a fire in the trees that stopped our shooting and brought the base fire department.
Sounds like a full on Chinese fire drill.
Interesting. Still...
Wait, I just thought that if the projectiles heated the steel of the vehicle while passing through enough before the metals hit the gunpowder.
Hmmm. I (Might) stand corrected.
Thank you.
The flash powder in firecrackers can be set off under pressure. Such pressure applied by a projectile at significant velocity will do.
I think a trip to the range to test this theory is in order.
(like I needed and excuse)
That was my mistake as a teenager.
Bi-metal bullets are loaded in some Com-bloc ammo. Copper wash over steel jacket, over lead core. Readily available at Walmart.
:) Teenage mistakes. I can’t type that much anymore I’ll get carpal tunnel.
Black Cats it is, I’ve got a box full of them somewhere around here.
Morale of the story could be to avoid getting into situations where your family is being shot at, even when you don’t have a load of fireworks in the car.
Intead of pressure I should have said under force of compression.

It’s all good, I understood that.
Yeah. I saw fires on ranges in the Guard several times. Bullets can ignite weeds or grass, even at 300 meters.
Nothing to joke about.
Don't need heat....impact will do the trick. Take a very small amount of firecracker powder and hit it with a hammer.
Videos don’t work at link. Did the TV station disable them?
