Yeah. That’s what makes me pause. Two yr olds can wander at night and more than one has gotten out of the house. But usually they are found walking around the neighborhood, not in a car.

Also, people generally lock their cars when on a lot overnight. How did the kid get in?

Sad story, but yes, there are missing pieces.

It depends a bit on the kid, and whether he's "just two", or "two going on three."

When my kids were 2 1/2, one of them figured out how to open the garage door, which was fairly heavy, dressed up in galoshes, and was over at the neighbor's house at 6 AM eating cookies. It never occurred to me he'd be capable of that. Of course, after that, I got a couple of insertible chain links to stick in the cut-outs in the railing, locking the garage door from those active little hands.
