I had a five month old German Shepherd puppy get crypto once.
Just getting the diagnosis stumped the vet for months. The obvious guess was giardia. Nope. The pup was tested for everything.
A tech *finally* thought to test for crypto, though it seemed far fetched.
We lived in SoCal back then; but, he was never anywhere near a pool, lake, river, or any public water source.
He tested positive.
The vet doesnt keep the meds, so I had to get them at a people pharmacy. They arent kept in stock there either, it was a special order.
The cost: $150 for five pills. And this was over 15 years ago.
The only possible source I can think of was the mud he has a swell time playing in at a friends place when her well pump basically exploded. She has a really unique set up on four acres in Los Angeles. Hmph.
