Just from a basketball point of view this makes the Nets at least number 3 behind the Bucks and Boston. To make a run in the playoffs they will need a three point shooter.

Maybe. Next season Durant will not play, and so basically the Nets have simply exchanged Kyrie Irving for D'Angelo Russell. Irving is a better talent, but he's also desperate to play team leader when he's clearly not qualified to do so - the only thing the young Celtics apparently agreed on was that they all despised Kyrie. Now Irving will practice his leadership skills on a young Brooklyn team.
When Durant comes back, he will be trying to return to form from a torn Achilles - probably the worst injury a basketball player can have. No player who has suffered the injury has ever gotten back to their pre-injury form, and while even 80% of Kevin Durant is better than most of the players in the game, we'll have to see how he looks in 2021, when he'll be 32.
