Use a more private browser, like the Brave Browser, or the new Dissenter (Gab) browser.

Both can be used with DuckDuckGo as a search engine (no google).

You can still install Windows 7 on a machine. You can buy a copy of Windows 7 and install that (in preference to Windows 10).

I do use brave and duck duck go.

the whole setup is awful on this machine.

Modern hardware won’t allow Windows 7 to run. There are no work-arounds either. Doubtful that you could even find NIB legacy motherboards and cpus for win7 these days. Maybe a used system in a flea market, but it would be a waste of time trying to make it all run.
