Lake County Forest Preserves District President Angelo Kyle questioned the necessity and appropriateness of the event during a recent board meeting, according to a Lake County News-Sun article. He says he's been to the event in the past and thinks the district's resources and focus should be on environmental issues and climate change instead of an event that features Civil War images, including a Confederate flag.

Illinois, just north of Cook County, and directly bordering on Wisconsin. I’m a former resident of IL and WI and directly know. Lived in that general area for many years. Absolute disgrace that this guy doesn’t understand what Lincoln did and the huge contribution of IL and WI soldiers to winning the CW and liberating the slaves. Reenactments are great history and celebrate that great victory for freedom.
Where else? Farthest northeast county in Illinois. Used to be part of America. I exist there.

Angelo Kyle ought be miffed that the Abraham Lincoln Museum in Springfield, Illinois features Civil War imagery that he may find offensive. Likewise, there is a Civil War monument immediately outside of the Lake County Offices and Courthouse in Waukegan. Since Kyle blames both the Union and Confederate armies for slavery that will have to be demolished too.
For what it is worth, Kyle was elected in 2018 and represents one of the worst communities in Lake County (North Chicago).
Wonder if this clown knows that about 100,000 African Americans tore cartridges and drew ram rods for $11.00 a month in the service of the Union Army.
Yeah, I bet there is a Lake County in every state.
