A favorite episode = when Hyacinth & Richard take a cruise on the QEII and find Onslow and Daisy aboard the same cruise. Onslow and Daisy were both cleaned and pressed, having dinner at the captain’s table (Hyacinth, green with envy) Daisy and her hubby actually looked dapper and well groomed, far from their normal appearance in front of the broken tv.
Love, love, love this show. I have never seen that. Must!
Whoever plays Hyacinth does a really good job, because I absolutely HATE the Hyacinth character.
My wife got me hooked on this 20 years ago. The Hyacinth and Richard characters struck a real chord with us as my dad was the long suffering husband to my Over-the-top mother. They lived until 90 and 88 and were inseparable.
The actor that portrayed Onslow just passed away six months ago or so and we had a thread on it here.
Such a fun show that we loved for many years.
Hyacinth is played by the Brilliant Patricia Routledge.
I agree that her character is incredibly obnoxious and insufferable but Routledge’s talent makes “Hyacinth” a blast to watch. I love how her schemes always blow up right in her face.
Believe it or not, Patricia Routledge can actually sing in real life. Hyacinth’s dreadful singing voice is another display of Routledge’s talent. Here is a link to an LP she recorded.
