WESTMORELAND COUNTY (KDKA) Religious leaders in Westmoreland County are expressing concerns over fundraisers in the community.
The one catching their attention: drag queen bingos at volunteer fire departments.
A group of seven Christian churches in the Mount Pleasant Township area called Christians Uniting issued a letter to about 14 volunteer fire departments in their congregation area on March 20.
It calls into question the use of drag queen bingos as fundraisers.
These pictures depicted individuals in a very unpleasant way, said Pastor Mark Werner. Not in the way that God created us to live.
The letter says:
This event encourages the touch, fondling and groping of patrons dressed in drag.
They go on to state that this could lead to lawsuits in the Me Too-era.

I’m from Western PA, and I’ve noticed a lot of the small town VFDs holding these lately.
What is the attraction?
It is stupid, but as long as the fundraiser is not for the churches or on church property, the churches should not care.
What is drag-queen bingo? Bingo for drag-queens? Called by darg-queens? Cards that mock drag queens?
There’s nothing wrong with the church’s expressing their concerns. Those concerns are very valid, but that’s beside the point.
They have no legal authority, but they should have moral authority. It is their community, too, afterall.
What I want to know is why are fire departments having the freakshows? Why is this a popular thing?
It’s OBVIOUSLY farce to create attention, and therefore attendance.
That these churches are upset about it strikes me as laughable.
“Religious leaders in Westmoreland County” at one point included a Catholic Bishop who used to quote Karl Marx verbatim.
Have they started opening Drag Queen Daycare centers yet?
If not, I predict it will happen, probably within the next 12 months.
A local bar does this once a month. In my town.
Some sort of drag show.
Not sure if its a real transvestite / transsexual thing or just dudes being silly.
Not bingo.
Same bar has theology Bible study night.
Having grown up in that area, I can say it was a lot better 40 years ago.
Why do you find it laughable, that churches express their concerns about drag queens involved in a fundraiser? Why is this funny?
Do you remember the Evergreen Drive-In?
Because it’s firemen PRETENDING to be drag queens.
To raise funds for the protection of the village.
It’s a deliberate farce that some people just can’t countenance.
They would also ban most movies if they could. Or even the tee vee.
Didn’t Red Skelton dress in drag for laughs? Even Johnny Carson?
These folks wouldn’t like that.
Yeah, laughable. Worthy of derision.
I sure do. I think the last time I was there was in ‘84. Then there was the Sunday Barn near Hurst High School.
They care because they are losing business. The churches make big bucks on bingo and these volunteer fire departments are cutting into the money trough.
I think its probably the comparing the two situations. On one side, you have an old women screaming numbers into a microphone that half works and on the other side you have a silly person telling jokes and having a good time calling out numbers. The churches are losing customers and their pissed. Has nothing to do with morality but money!!!!!
