Theres a recurring complaint with King County Metro customers: The buses or bus stops smell of human waste. And some customers are losing their patience, sometimes unfairly.
Either you have a serial dumper or no one did anything to address this, one customer complained. Sick of it. Clean this [expletive] up, literally.
As a frequent bus user, Ive experienced some of the same observations on routes 70 and 8. The bus or bus stop can sometimes smell as if its been used as a toilet.
KTTH and MyNorthwest, through a public disclosure request, poured through over 15,000 complaints filed with Metro online throughout all of 2018, and we noticed a trend. Its almost assuredly a direct consequence of a regions out of control homelessness which Metro isnt remotely responsible for.
One complaint said the stench near a bus stop of the Rapid Ride E, at South Washington Street between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue, was so bad, a bus rider literally gagged.(snip)
One user felt scared in downtown Seattle where they constantly deal with aggressive panhandlers. It was not the users first complaint(snip)
In Wallingford, a rider complained that the bus stop is disgusting due to human waste and garbage that hasnt been cleaned for days.(snip)
...Ive routinely seen bus drivers let homeless people on the bus without paying or showing a pass, usually (and understandably) to avoid a tense showdown that makes the already-late bus even more tardy to their next stop.
Some of these homeless individuals are clearly causing the stench on board and, rather than getting help, City and County leaders keep them in an unhealthy state, while ruining the Metro experience.

Ah yes, the aroma of socialism. It is a fragrant bouquet of chit, rotting garbage and stale pee which greets the visitor to all major Left Coast cities....
He came to Everett. Lines around the block. Packed house.
Soooooo many unions in this county. So many. 70 percent of the people working in Everett are unionized. Has to be one of the highest in the country.
Ahhh you get used to it. Just do what troops in WWI trench warfare did. Suck it up..
Every day I take DART to work, the stench of marijuana pervades once you get to certain parts of the city.
...and yet Seattle bus riders keep electing the very people who allow this to occur.
You cant fix stupid.
Perhaps Seattle residents should revive the custom of carrying pomanders, containers of fragrant substances that in medieval times were sniffed to ward the off the foul miasmas of open sewers in the streets.
Rob Schneider was perfect as that hobo.

I lived in several places around there including Bellevue, Mercer Island, Renton,, Tukwila and Kent. I did a lot of bicycle commuting from the east side to the city, to the U district, to Renton and to Belevue. I pretty much rode my bike on every road in that city on Cascade bike rides or just riding for fun. What killed that was cell phones and texting. I didn’t want to die.
There are many things I love about that area, including the city as well as the outskirts like Black Diamond, the Cedar and Green rivers (I innertubed both as a youth). But the politics and traffic killed it for me. Well, that and the fact that I just needed new scenery.
But the traffic and the politics utterly ruined it for me, and they are now ruining it for a LOT of people there.
I wonder...
Can someone “bottle” that scent and sell those bottles for Conservatives to give to their Liberal “friends”?
