As for younger musicians, my trick is to note one good one on YouTube, then listen to similar performers who are listed alongside them, or session musicians who have played with them. I’ve discovered lots of fantastic music you’ll never hear on the radio.
Check out Paolo Nutini.
Then go to Bettye LaVette.
I’m not so much into hard rock these days.
More into bluegrass, delta blues.
Also a lot of the old timer rock stars who haven’t had any “hits’ lately are actually doing far more interesting things now than decades ago, when they were “famous.”
Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull)
Robert Plant (Led Zep)
Dr. John recently died— that guy played with the Stones & 1000s of others. He was so much more of a musician than his famous persona & his entire catalog is worth checking out on youtube.
Thanks for the tips. Will check them out!
