ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park was temporarily closed because of winter weather on Friday the first day of summer.
Snow is falling at higher elevations in the park.
The road was closed just before 10 a.m. at Rainbow Curve on the east side about eight miles into the park, and at Milner Pass on the west side about 16 miles from the Grand Lake entrance. It reopened about 90 minutes later.
Park officials said to expect wet conditions and possible poor visibility on Friday. The Alpine Visitor Center was closed for the day because of the poor weather.
The road, one of the most scenic and popular summer drives in Colorado, opened June 5. Its traditional opening for Memorial Day weekend was delayed because of heavy snow this season.
The road is the highest paved continuous road in the U.S. that tops out at 12,183 feet.
Up to 10 inches of snow are forecast for the high country through Sunday.

Silly people. Warm weather is climate. Cold weather is just weather.
Yep! That was us yesterday. Thankfully we made it up during the time it was open. It closed again when we were on our way back down. A pretty scary drive, but so worth it!
Doesn’t seem like Colorado is going to have a summer this year.
Nice. You and out of state visitor?
First day of summer was 27.5°F here in the morning. 4100ft elev.
*an out of state...
Yep, been getting a lot of rain and not the super hot weather right out of the starting gate like we sometimes get. Maybe an iceage is coming down the pike.
I am not. We live in Douglas County. Just spending a few days in Estes Park with family.
If a Leftist likes the forecast, its weather. If they dont, its climate.
Nice. Beautiful area. Enjoy your mini-trip.
The ice age is coming
The sun is zooming in
Meltdown expected
And the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running
But I have no fear
London is drowning
And I live by the river
The whole mountain west is just now getting around to the idea of Spring. People have just begun watering their lawns.
Ice age.
We need the greenhouse effect.
We need to start driving more.
Biggie, gas-guzzling SUVs.
;)
Beautiful down here on the flats. More rain than usual so everything is green.
As I recall, the monthly average temp in February set an all time record low.
We are also dryer than normal, too, which is strange because we have a moderate El Nino condition, which usually brings warmer than normal temps, plus a wetter than average rainy season.
LOL. Global warming results in winter weather on the first day of summer.
If the Sun stays in low Sunspot mode...you will be right on the money
Global warming.
