FULL TITLE: Kindergarten teacher pens shocking viral post about why she quit her job, slamming parents whose unruly kids 'throw tantrums' and 'flip tables' because they aren't taught to behave or ever 'told no' at home
A former teacher has revealed the various reasons she decided to quit her job as a kindergarten teacher in a Facebook post.
Jessica Gentry, 34, from Harrisonburg, Virginia, took to Facebook on Thursday, June 13, to reveal the reason she quit her job at Stone Spring Elementary School after 12 years of teaching.
The mother-of-one listed a number of reasons that drove her to quit her job, including having a lack of support from children's parents, an emphasis being placed on using technology to teach, and the overall feeling that 'kids deserve better'.

Yep. It’s everywhere now. Only a matter of time. Never thought the curriculum would change here and it did, to the point I only teach math now (and it’s there too ugh). And classroom management is now “responsive classroom” aka kids control it.
9 years til retirement. I’m done trying. Both political parties want this, parents want this, educators want this. I don’t understand it at all. I do what I can and my students feel safe. They know they’re safe in a room I’m in (safe from other students). They know I’m the adult in the room and that has to be enough now.
When the parents don’t care, it’s done.
No, it’s probably not noticeable yet in their neighborhood. It wasn’t in my affluent area until the last few years.
Yes they are :(
This is happening in affluent areas, too. A “dad” isn’t the issue. That issue past long ago.
“What is restricting this basic commitment till death do us part?”
Because nobody cares. It isn’t an issue anymore.
My own parish doesn’t encourage couples to marry in the church. They actually discourage it! My daughter was married in the Church two years ago and it was uncommon. My daughter is getting married in the Church next year and it’s really uncommon. Odd for this area when I was married 30 years ago. We had to make sure we had the church on our date before the reception hall...now it’s the reception hall date first because the church will be easily available.
“Many of the kids she is complaining about come from homes where there is either no dad or a man lives with the child and mother but isnt the dad. I will bet the ranch that these problem parents and children have no relationship with a church. She probably doesnt either. Hard to go to church when one is shaking up”
As a teacher in an affluent area, nope. Doesn’t matter. It’s the culture now.
Wrong.
The teacher can’t discipline in any way whatsoever. It’s against policy. Responsive classroom now and don’t you (a teacher or anyone else) try to do anything that goes against that policy.
The Administration won’t back her up.
Nope, even seasoned teachers don’t know what has become until it hits their classroom. I was shocked too. Then once known, you learn to play the game.
I was never spanked and I turned out just fine and same for my now adult kids.
I not only said no to my 4 now adult kids, I or my husband took them out of stores, restaurants, family gatherings, etc when they misbehaved. Parenting is hard and it is constant. They also behaved in school because they knew the punishment at home would be worse. Sometimes they hated us.
And even then, sometimes nothing works (not for us but for some I know). But in my experience, I see parents not parenting their kids at all now. It’s unreal and quite sad.The parents aren’t, the church isn’t, the school isn’t. It’s sad because we are raising kids who won’t know how to function in a world that isn’t geared toward their “specialness.”
You pay for private school or a better zip codes not for better schools but for who your kids go to school with because thats what makes a school....not money or fancy tech gear
You want your kids where there are parents and parents who care...
Preferably two parents with differing anatomy
tell me Im lying
kids with no parenting ....doesnt take but five percent to ruin a school
A heart surgeon told me this at an upscale bar of a fancy restaurant when we moved from urban Nashville to Franklin
When I remarked we moved out of the city for better middle and high schools since private in posh Nashville zip codes cost 25,000 a year
And I had three in school and two in college
I never forgot his words...being a prep school grad myself
Well said and I agree with everything but the spanking part.

Yep and then sometimes that doesn’t matter/help either.
Btw
Hi dear hope youre having a fine summer
My home stays full of kids from middle school to young adults
absolutely.
When I lived in town, the local toney private was made up of about 1/3 of the student body being there because that was written in the divorce settlement.
They're not allowed to care, either. Never thought I'd see this day in America.
