London, England, Jun 21, 2019 / 11:15 am (CNA).- A British judge has authorized doctors to perform an abortion on a pregnant Catholic woman with developmental disabilities and a mood disorder, despite the objections of the woman’s mother and the woman herself. The woman is 22 weeks pregnant.
“I am acutely conscious of the fact that for the State to order a woman to have a termination where it appears that she doesn't want it is an immense intrusion,” said Justice Nathalie Lieven in her ruling in the Court of Protection, June 21.
“I have to operate in [her] best interests, not on society's views of termination,” Lieven explained, arguing that her decision is in the best interest of the woman.

It’s a sad situation since both the young woman and her caregiver mother want the baby. The article is unclear as to under what circumstances did the girl become pregnant in the first place? They ‘don’t know’ if she consented.
This uncertainty of how she became with child may cause the judge to think the girl’s mom has not been able to properly supervise her daughter so far, and would show even less competency when trying to supervise or care for two people.
Very unfortunate and nobody really ends up winning.
Why are the authorities “investigating” the conception? Either the woman is capable of consent or she isn’t. And if she’s capable of consenting, why isn’t she capable of refusing the abortion?
The state is fixing to end up winning. It gets what it wants.
Nevertheless, she ordered an abortion against the will of the mother and grandmother. She isn’t sane, she’s controlling. Has she given a single thought to the child and the baby’s best interest? Has she thought about the pain of killing a living being? Nope.
I want to drop an F-bomb, though censored.
That’s just sick. The woman has no rights because she’s disabled? What about someone who has mental illness, but follows a very strict drug regimen? Physically disabled? Where is the line drawn? When do they start aborting because a parent is “too poor” to care adequately for a child?
A sane judge? Are you insane?
The woman is in care of the NHS, whatever in Hades THAT means.
Seems to me if someone was derelict, it was/is the NHS.
The UK is nominally Christian. Apparently all those years of Christianity didn’t instill in their minds a set of values based on a clear understanding of how we are made.
Our human nature makes it WRONG to kill our babies. Wondering why the “Christian” churches in the UK have rejected that in favor of secular humanism.
