I hate the notion of proportional responses, but in this case, I think he did the right thing.

I don't think this was really the case of "proportional response" driving the decisions. I suspect one or both of the following is going on here:
1. The U.S. drone wasn't in international waters, or at least there is some legitimate question about this point of fact.
2. President Trump knows that players in the U.S. government -- including Democrats using the Iranian government as a DNC operation and globalist Republicans who have been bought and sold by foreign interests for years -- are pushing for a military campaign against Iran for their own reasons that have nothing to do with the best interests of the United States.

Trump is right. They shot down a stupid drone. Now they got the message “don’t do it again”

Just imagine the press reaction if Trump ordered air strikes that killed 150 mostly civilians, and of course all the innocent women and children, in retaliation for downing an unmanned drone.
