Chrome slides

Posted on 06/20/2019 4:55:54 AM PDT by conservativesister

I know DON'T USE GOOGLE CHROME - before you all blast me. I have these little slide ins that aren't blocked by my popup blocker. Does anyone know how to stop this, it comes in groups of about 10 and then leaves me alone for a couple of hours. Most annoying. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA.

Heh. My old boss used to mount his slides on metal frames that looked like chrome. Better than the plastic ones when putting then into the Kodak carousel projector. But for this I guess any knowledge I might have about them won't do you much good.

Without the "are you logged in?" jokes, are you sure it's Chrome causing these slide outs, not a virus on your PC?

If you're sure it's Chrome, you can click on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the Chrome window, click on "More tools >", then click on "Extensions."

See if there are any strange looking extensions running, and click "Remove" to delete them.

You may have a rogue extension installed. Examine your settings to check and/or remove.

Many sites use video slide-ins/fly-ins, annoying though they are. There are (ironically) Chrome extensions that will block these.

1 Look at the notifications and see what site you gave permission to send them.

2 Not going to make this link active but cut-and-paste this into Chrome

chrome://settings/content/notifications

3 Next to Block click [ Add ]

4 Add the name of the website from Step 1

5 Also, if "Ask Before Sending" is turned off, turn it ON (toggle=blue)

6 Close Chrome and open it again

7 Now put this in the Chrome browser

chrome://settings/

8 Scroll down to "Advanced" and open "Advanced"

9 Scroll down to "Clear Browsing Data"

10 Nuke everything (unless you have Passwords or Hosted App Data you want to keep - uncheck those)

11 Close Chrome and open it again. Problem solved.

If you are talking about those things that pop up from the right side of the screen, these are notifications. They can come from anywhere in Windows and not just Chrome. The next time you get one, click on the upper right menu of the notification and tell it to stop sending the notification.

Are you sure Chrome is guilty?

Simple to find out, try another browser and see if it happens with that one too.

Yes - It’s not Chrome if it happens with another browser too. Run the security apps in a previous post, especially malwarebytes. If you know a little about how to use it, HijackThis is good too. But be careful what you let it shut down....plenty of what it finds is perfectly normal and safe. You have to know the difference.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/

No - If another browser does not show the same problem, try some of the Chrome specific suggestions already posted.

Hmmm... Don't have either, on many networked computers, and have never had a virus since Windows 95. 'Course I don't go to any porn sites, hmmm? And attachments are not allowed in emails except MS documents and image files. So I guess I am an IDIOT.

You do know that anti-virus programs cause more problems than virus's, right? And that those programs look like a virus to another AV program. They take over your computer and cause it to run slower and with a lot of glitches.

AND the time between updates to your definition file is long enough for a fast-acting virus, which most are, to get you before you get a new definition file.

Follow a few easy rules and you won't get a virus, the built-in MS AV is better than any other anyway. But what do I know, I'm just an IDIOT who doesn't sit around watching porn all day.

I use Slimjet as my browser and had a problem similar to yours. I suspected an add-on was the problem. Except when I went to the add-on screen in Slimjet there were none. I knew this was BS as I had active add-ons that were working fine.

Long story short, I backed up all my bookmarks. Made a list of the add-ons I wanted. Downloaded a new copy of Slimjet, recovered my bookmarks from the backup. Visited different sites to reinstall the add-ons I wanted. Problem solved.

Take a look at your brower’s add-on page. If you have add-ons and they aren’t listed you might have the same problem.

On my computer, I just right-click and choose Display Settings. Then choose ‘system’ / ‘notifications and actions’

Scroll down to ‘Get notifications from these senders’ and turn off Google Chrome.

I had the same issue and this worked for me. Good Luck.

Sadly, other browsers suck even more memory.

Chrome sucks the least. Literally.

I saw your post on Slimjet - checked it out & downloaded it. It seems to be Chrome but faster and a MUCH less memory hog.

Can you import your bookmarks from Chrome?

Thanks!

The Slimjet browser is based on Chrome. I can't answer your question as I have never used Chrome as my browser. Give it try. Can't hurt.

You might want to check the Slimjet web site. They may have info regarding importing Chrome bookmarks.

One reason SJ is faster than Chrome is that they don't track you. I use Duckduckgo for searches, they don't track you either.

For add-ons I use Ad Block Plus and Ghostery. Both are excellent. To get around paywalls I use the Reader View add-on. outline.com is also good for this.

Used both and it didn’t get it. Also have Spybot that didn’t work either.
