To: a fool in paradise

There absolutely are grains of truth in what Cusak is saying:

If you let out a peep about, “Hey, uh...maybe this isn’t our war, maybe a country with $23 trillion in debt should maybe not turn 7 simultaneous wars into EIGHT” you WILL get some people calling you a Nazi.

They might crank it back to something more tame, like, “You’re an outdated isolationst” or, “You don’t care enough, you don’t care about the suffering of the outside world”.

You might get something like that.

But in fact Cusak is partly right.

Technically, Voltaire didn’t say, “To learn who rules over you, look to those whom you cannot criticize”. Very many people attribute that quote to Voltaire, and I feel the truth of the quote, yet Voltaire didn’t say that.

I don’t like Cusak’s politics in general, since he’s a liberal, but in fact over the years the USA is getting crammed into wars that aren’t hers.

And it’s true we are now in 7 wars at the same time.

Sometimes we enter wars that aren’t really ours for Saudi Arabia, but usually it’s for Israel, who has very, very great influence over DC.

Quite apart from the problem of undue outside influence, if you look honestly at US history, you will see that USUALLY we enter wars over false flags, so we should be wary:

Civil War - Lincoln orders “re-supply” of Fort Sumter. South sees approach of North ships after clash, imagines hostility, firing begins. Lincoln ordered to do the one thing everyone said would bring civil war, and it did.

Spanish-American War - USS Maine blows up in Havana Bay. Hearst did it? The picture is unclear. Did the Spanish do it? No.

WW1 - Lusitania sinking. Destroyers needlessly withdrawn, ship sent into MOST dangerous area possible, Lusitania was packed with war munitions. Germany did it, but it seems some people wanted them to.

WW2 - Pearl Harbor. This one is very controversial, some say FDR knew, some say he didn’t.

Vietnam - Tonkin Gulf attack when there wasn’t any

Gulf War 1 - “Incubator babies thrown on floor” was total BS, didn’t happen.

Gulf War 2 - Towers fell, “Saddam did it..!” Wow, that was fast.

Other eggregious ones omitted for brevity

Today, there is a lot of money being made by some people with a lot of influence, or political pull by war, My FRiend. Neither they nor their families are in any danger of being killed or permanently maimed for life. All they have to do is rake in the money with both hands.

So we are fighting Islamic terrorists who killed almost 3000 American fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters on 9/11 for the Israelis?

WW2 - Pearl Harbor. This one is very controversial,

No it wasn't.

Gulf War 1 - “Incubator babies thrown on floor” was total BS, didn’t happen.

Invasion of Kuwait, an ally at the time, also following attacking the Stark. Your history is myopic.

Gulf War 2 - Towers fell, “Saddam did it..!”

Uh, no. But he was in violation of numerous UN treaty terms from no fly zone violations to chemical weapons and supporting certain terrorist groups. I notice you don't mention Afghanistan.

Other eggregious ones omitted for lack of historical context.

I am not defending every action that has taken place. I understand that sometimes its better to leave dictators in place than to bring the house down. I understand that certain actors like the Saudis don't necessarily have clean hands. But several posters, yourself amongst them, like to paint a broad brush over all US actions since the dawn of time, when in fact the US has been more a force for good in the world than any other nation in history. You post like a lib/dem/America hater, like Moochel Obama, never having been proud of your country or grateful for those that sacrificed so that you could disrespect them.

This shows when you post complaints about the origins of the Civil War. That's really reaching, blaming the US for its own civil war. Whatever you believe the cause for that, it has no bearing on the political decisions of today.

Don't worry though. Our warriors, our real men, stay up late at night on watch, so that you can sleep in peace.

“Saddam did it..!”

Speaking of fake quotes. I don't remember anybody seriously making that assertion. The assertion, which was undeniable, was that Hussein was facilitating, funding and exporting islamic terrorism in general.
