Absolute BS. Do governments invest in how they can sway opinion with social media? Of course. But to think ...

... well let me put it this way ...

If you really really believe that government can innovate and come out with a product that attractive to the market, that popular, then communism in the right hands really is a great idea.

Bit it's not. And they can't.

You’re assuming academia wasn’t involved.

Look, I agree with the limits of government, especially the day to day elected bureaucrats (morons). Those hired into non-elected positions within the CIA/NSA are a completely different beast...you’re acting like Snowden didn’t happen. Add to this that government and academia constantly collaborate on many things, both publicly and privately, to believe the government has to come up with the idea is patently absurd.

They way you talk it’s as though I think soldiers design weapon systems. Of course not...it’s happens with combining academia, private companies, and government $$$. Why would you think they wouldn’t use the same apparatus for social engineering? That’s incredibly naive. Do you not see the younger generations consumed with their smartphone? MOST don’t watch any news - but they “know” the news by what friends on FB post, a monopoly, completely under the control of a sociopath.

I work in big tech - I know what is possible and it is frightening me. I also know exactly how the government behaves respective to developing weapons with academics and private companies. Yet, amazingly, this is just crazy talk when applied to a social media platform. One created after the Patriot Act, where massive government surveillance began.

Next you’ll be telling me you don’t know what wechat is....the Chinese social credit score is coming to America and some don’t see it’s through tech giants, with plenty of government meddling. The UK demonized the CEO of YouTube because the “wrong” search results appear - basically certain people should be shut down. They demanded YT change the algorithms - and what happened immediately? The de-platforming of conservatives followed.

I thought more on here understood what is possible, the way things are done, and the nature of government (fascists). This is going to make me rethink...
