From my understanding, from some people we talked to, there was apparently an argument inside. Some type of argument that ensued into a gun battle, Lt. Jeff Edwards told reporters.
The off-duty LAPD officer reportedly works in the Southwest Division and shot and killed a man during an altercation after feeling threatened.
The injured were transported to a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Witnesses at the scene told CBSLA reporter Nicole Comstock they heard an argument before hearing seven or eight shots.
The investigation is currently ongoing, but the officer is not currently in custody as investigators look into what may have prompted the shooting including the possibility of self-defense.

Especially since he clearly needs more range time.
If you give the other guy time to shoot first you are not winning.
That was the Mesa Police Department. The chief of police there made a statement saying that there was something not right about what happened. The police union initiated a vote of confidence about the chief—the result was a vote of no-confidence. I’m not certain what’s happened since then, but if they fire the chief, then I believe the citizens of Mesa will be at the mercy of an out-of-control police force.
“but the officer is not currently in custody”
Thin Blue Privilege.
Anyone else would be in jail pending the outcome of the investigation.
Cops get to shoot and kill people because of their vibrant imaginations.
“Unarmed Kenneth French, 32, was killed by the off-duty LAPD officer at Costco in Corona on Friday night...
His parents, Russell and Paola French, were also severely injured in the shooting and they remained in intensive care on Monday....
...Police said the officer opened fire after French ‘assaulted’ him ‘without provocation’ as the officer held his young child.
Bullets struck both French and his parents. French’s mother remains in a coma while his father’s condition improved slightly over the weekend...
...Police said the off-duty officer was the only one who fired shots in the store.”

Sounding pretty bad for the off-duty cop right now. Unarmed mentally handicapped man killed while shopping with his parents, and both parents in ICU. Gonna be tough to argue the cop was in fear of his life.
“...opened fire after French assaulted him without provocation as the officer held his young child.”
I have no idea what they mean by “assaulted” - but he may have been in fear of his child being hurt.
There aren’t many cases I can think of where an unarmed, mentally handicapped guy shopping with his parents in Costco, surrounded by other people, is such a terrifying threat that an off-duty cop needs to pull a gun and open fire. The one time I’ve pulled a gun in my life, it was 8:1 and no one else was within miles.
Unarmed man? Surrounded by other shoppers? His parents present? And you not only open fire, but manage to critically injure both parents as well?
I’m thinking 95% probability of a bad shoot. Maybe higher.
It’s been nearly 12 days since the shooting. Still no video.
I hope you aren’t still holding your breath...
