Woman arrested for twerking in the street (video, photo - barf alert)

A central-city woman was caught on video performing a popular dance move in front of a Toledo police officer as she was being arrested.

Asia C. Hughes, 27, of the 700 block of Yates Street is charged with disorderly conduct; hindering/preventing movement of others, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree.

An officer on Monday saw Ms. Hughes — who was wearing a thong with her buttocks exposed — dancing on a utility pole in a provocative manner at Sylvania Avenue and Jackman Road, according to an incident report. She also entered the roadway and began twerking, which is dancing in a sexually provocative manner that involves thrusting hip movements in a low, squatting stance.

Several vehicles stopped or swerved to avoid striking her, according to an affidavit filed in Toledo Municipal Court.

An onlooker recorded the incident, and the video was posted to Toledo Tweets’ Twitter account. It shows the officer detaining Ms. Hughes as she continues dancing in front of him.

Ms. Hughes was booked in the Lucas County jail and was later released on her own recognizance.

She was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but she failed to appear. A bench warrant was issued Tuesday, and bond was set at $250.
