>>Severed Head of a Giant 40,000-Year-Old Wolf Discovered in Russia<<
If there was ever a title for a Amazon, Hulu or Netflix series, that is it!

I dont have any idea how they can tell that the wolf lived to be 40,000 years old. Trees have rings. What do wolves have?

“The severed head is 16 inches (40 centimeters) long. That’s about half the size of a modern wolf’s body, which can range from 26 inches (66 cm) to 34 inches (86 cm) long, according to The Siberian Times. “
Really big wolf, I’m guessing a 48 inch body.

The wolf could have died of natural causes and then been eaten. The head is the least edible part of a carcass. Perhaps the rest of the wolf was eaten.

I imagine the followers of Roger Caras, who popularized loving wolves back in the 1970s, are heartbroken over the slaughter of this “poor innocent creature!”

Fascinating! Another article on that site reports that ancient wolves split from dogs @27k years ago.

To be honest, I wish real journalism would have taken place and provided more context. The head about half the length of a full grown modern wolf does not help. If it would have said, this wolf would have stood eight taller with twice the weight, I would have been able to imagine the scale.
Right now, I don’t know what the larger head means.

The dire wolf was a formidable predator, measuring almost five feet from head to tail and weighing in the vicinity of 150 to 200 pounds - about 25 percent bigger than the biggest dog alive today (the American mastiff), and 25 percent heavier than the largest gray wolves.

Otherwise know as short faced bear snack.
