U.S. soccer star Alex Morgan is getting ready to help defend her team’s World Cup title in France next month and if the Americans should win again, she said she’s prepared to decline a possible invitation to visit President Trump at the White House.
Morgan, who has previously been outspoken about Trump and his administration’s policies, told Time Magazine in a lengthy profile published Thursday she doesn’t stand for what the current president stands for.
“I don’t stand for a lot of things the current office stands for,” she said, adding that she doesn’t care for the administration’s policies about separating migrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border.
She said she would not go to the White House if the president invites the team. It was unclear if Trump had any plans to invite the team, if they win.
“We don’t have to be put in this little box,” Morgan said. “There’s the narrative that’s been said hundreds of times about any sort of athlete who’s spoken out politically. ‘Stick to sports.’ We’re much more than that, OK?”

The best high school athletes in the U.S. play other sports; and there are lots to choose from. In Sweden, sports are pretty much soccer and those that involve snow.
I just wanted Alex Whatshername to know that when Obama was in the White House, I decided to decline an invitation after I won the neighborhood horseshoe contest for over 70 men. There....take that, Alex!

Speaking of Obama...I am watching Chile v. Sweden game...One of Fox people mentioned Obama’s twitter message supporting USWNT...The message showed picture of the team visiting White House after 2015 World Cup victory.
The Fox person then commented, “Maybe another visit to White House this July?”
Really? How about Morgan’s comments?
Lindsay Vonn made the same boast — and lost.
It’s not a game enhancer.
She’s a talented athlete, but is also a lot of drama in her own right....
Frankly, if she did come to the White House, I’d count the silverware after she left.... just saying...

As an ex pat Englishman, I love soccer. But Women’s soccer is awful. So I won’t be watching, Alex.

It’s a social occasion, not a political one.
The players go to the White House to be celebrated,
for their achievements, not to debate policy.
Apparently we’re all too childish now to have polite
social interactions with people with whom we disagree.

I agree...Athletes visited White House when Reagan and Bush served as President...I am talking about both Bush 1 and Bush 2...Somebody remind me if there were some controversies back in those days...I am sure many of those athletes were Dems...I guess many athletes were better behaved back then...
Such as what, exactly? A celebrity? That's sort of a weak reed to be leaning on when your sport is striving for recognition and you've just alienated half your audience.

I think Alex M has endorsement deals...She probably makes more money than anyone else on USWNT...
She apparently does not care if she alienates fans...
She can stfu and make me a sammich.
Which is why I won’t watch these women anymore.
I watched them intently in the past, but now feel like I’m voting by watching, and now refuse to participate. Same for NBA.
